In mid 17th century Manuel Isaac van Dort lived in Amsterdam. He was Jewish and is said to come from Dordrecht. One of his descendants went to Java, Indonesia around 1850. Indonesia was a colony of The Netherlands from early 17th Century till 1948. The family worked in very different professions, but more than one of them worked in an area
related to sugar production.
Wieteke van Dort
The most famous descendant of Manuel Isaac van Dort is Wieteke van Dort. She is a famous Dutch theatre and TV personality and also wrote poetry. In one of her shows she plays the character of Tante Lien, an Indische woman.
